Six-Stage Model of Changing: Diclemente, Norcross & Prochaska's Change Theory |
|
James Prochaska, John Norcross and Carlo DiClemente developed a theory identifying 6 stages of changing. Many people find this a useful roadmap in evaluating where they are in the process of making changes. In the following pages, I present a summary of the 6 stages identified in this theory. If you are familiar with Prochaska's theory, you will note that I have renamed the stages to give them names that are more descriptive. Please note that this model is different from the practical roadmap I describe elsewhere on this site as a proactive approach to new year's resolutions. The left column has links to all 6 stages of change, as well as to the book. To read about the 6 stages, you can: or read online: The first stage is: "Not really ready". |
