The Myth of Male Power
Warren Farrell, Ph.D.
In The Myth of Male Power (originally published in 1993), the author focuses on men’s powerlessness. While women have freed themselves, men still act like slaves. Their historically evolved gender role has made them the endangered sex: as women see themselves as exchangeable sex objects, so men know deep down that they are prized for their disposability. They have a higher mortality and suicide rate, have more dangerous jobs, and are much more prone to all kinds of violence than women, with the exception of rape. Ironically, however, the female image as the powerless gender has not changed. While women dominate men in many respects, the government and its agencies give them preferential treatment as if they were the eternal victims.

Why Men Are the Way They Are: The Male-Female Dynamic
Warren Farrell, Ph.D.
These books (The Myth of Male Power and Why Men are the Way They Are) are not just full of marvelous insights, they’re also fun to read. Yes, just like you and me, Warren Farrell too has heard of the women’s rights movement and what feminists have had to say about our patriarchal society. In fact, unlike you and me, he used to be an integral part of the feminist movement, as the only male three-time board member of the New York City chapter of the National Organization for Women. From that vantage point, Farrell gained unique insight into what makes men and women tick (as well as what ticks them off). It provided the experience he needed to write books that should be read by men and women alike.
