Proactive Change: Integrative psychotherapy & couples counseling in New York City |
|
I help you take a more proactive approach to making the changes you want. This is an integrative process, informed by both relational and somatic perspectives... as well as attention to practical issues. I know this may sound like a lot of pompous words. The following will hopefully give you more of a sense of what it's actually like. - We view the problems you're facing as a challenge, as opposed to a disorder or a pathology. This is an opportunity to build on your existing strengths as well as develop new skills. - Inner exploration is very much
related to making changes in your life. In fact, there is a dynamic
relationship between the two: - Getting in touch with feelings and emotions, and exploring your subconscious, is a process that engages your creative side. This helps you tap into powerful innner resources to better face life's challenges. The work we do is experiential. It's not about rehashing the same thing over and over again, it's about finding a way to "get it" at a deep level, so that you can make the changes you need. We do not dwell on the past as a way to avoid present problems, nor do we ignore the past as if it didn't affect your life. Your "baggage" very much affects your present reality. This is why we can actually deal with it while exploring what you're doing (or not doing) in the present. The liberating effect of this work is to disentangle the crossed strands of past "baggage" and present reality... so that you can live more fully in the present.
